GTA Neighbourhoods to Watch in 2020

 

Five Up-And-Coming Neighbourhoods in the GTA to Invest in

The year 2020 is just around the corner!


If you’re planning to buy a property in the next 12 months but are still not settled on the location, this list can help you decide. Here are the top up-and-coming neighbourhoods in the GTA that can make great to invest.

Lakeview Village, Mississauga

A few months ago, the government approved a massive redevelopment of the Lakeview Village – a 177-acre site that will be home to a mix of residential condos (low, mid, and high-rise), a cultural hub (an outdoor event space and a community centre), a school, as well as industrial and retail developments. 

The development will have access to major highways (QEW and 427) as well as the future Hurontario LRT, which will connect Brampton and Mississauga. 

 

Construction is expected to start sometime in 2020 with the first phase of condos being completed in 2023. The entire redevelopment of the Lakeview Village will take approximately 10 years (but likely more, knowing how the government and the development companies work).

So if you’re looking to buy something long-term, this is a great development to be a part of.

Erin Mills, Mississauga

Erin Mills town center recently went through a $100 million redevelopment. And now it’s looking to add a huge entertainment complex. 

Erin Mills ranks great in terms of affordability. The rapid development and affordable prices have been the leading factors in attracting more and more condo developments to this neighborhood, making it a great area to live and invest in over the next few years.

The Queensway, Etobicoke

The Queensway is a neighbourhood located just north of Mimico. The latter has been much talked about for its affordability and location and as I see it, the Queensway is the new Mimico. 

Home to several big condo developments, like Thirty Six Zorra, it’s located minutes from the QEW and the 427 and is undergoing a lot of redevelopment from what used to be mostly industrial and retail zone to a residential hub. 

Given it’s close proximity to the downtown core and ample space for new developments, this is another neighbourhood to watch over the next 3-5 years.

Malvern, Scarborough

Another up-and-coming neighbourhood with rapidly growing real estate prices is Malvern. Located just north of the 401 between Markham Rd and Morningside Ave., it’s close proximity to the highway, the Scarborough Town Centre, and some of the best trails in the Rouge Park make it an attractive neighbourhood for a lot of families. 

Prices in the east end of Toronto are, on average, lower than in the west. In addition to the affordability factor, the planned Eglinton East LRT will add flexibility for commuters and more appeal for those looking to move into more spacious dwellings while still being close to the downtown core.

The Orbit, Innisfil

It’s not part of the GTA but I wanted to include Innisfil because I’ve long admired the town’s innovations in trying to attract and keep its residents happy. Take for example their transit system. instead of wasting money on public buses that would only serve some areas, the town partnered with Uber to provide affordable and quick transit system. 

And now, the town has propelled itself into the future with its latest transit-centered project called the Orbit. It’s going to be built around their new GO station (6th Line and 20th Sideroad) that is slated to open in the next few years. This development will feature a massive system of futuristic-looking residential buildings, transit hubs, as well as recreational and office spaces. The goal of the project is to build a better community through the creation of jobs, housing options, and preserving the natural green spaces and trails of the town. 

Innisfil has several great parks – like the Innisfil Beach Park (personally one of my favorite parks within a short drive of the city) – and is located on Lake Simcoe. It’s a great community for families looking to move away from the hectic pace of the GTA and enjoy more nature.
